Abstract:
Basedonthesinglefibermodelofalignedshortfiberreinforcedmetalmatrixeomposites,
thethermalresidualstressesandtheirdistributionareealeulatedwiththeaxi一symmetriealelasto一plastie
finiteelementmethod.Theeffeetsofvariousmierostrueturalparametersonthermalresidualstressesare
diseussed.Theeffeetsofthermalresidualstressesonstresstransferinali,edshortfibereomposite
underaxiallyappliedloadareanalyzed.It15shownthattheunmatehedthermalstrainresultsin
eompressionalstressesinthefibers,tensilestressesinthematrix,andeompressionalnormalstresses
oninterfaees.Thermalresidualstressesdegradesthedegreeofstresstransferbetweenmatrixand
fibers,andharxnfultotheimProvementofthemeehaniealpropertiesoftheeomposite.
