Abstract: To study the characters of noises from railway marshalling yards, noises are recorded in Kunming Eastern Railway Station. The noises created by mechanical car retarders are the major noise resources in railway marshalling yards, and are the results of vertical and horizontal responses to vertical excitation. The noises from mechanical car retarders in railway marshalling yards are continuous and of multi-peak pulses and scattering spectrum.
