Abstract: This paper presents a matrix approach for calculating the pile settlement and shaft-load in layered soil. The soil profile may be arbitrarily layered with a rigid stratum at a certain depth. By contrast with the practically measured data in large-scale cast-in-place pile prototype test, it can be seen that the method proposed in this paper is simple and comparatively accurate in calculating the pile settlement under working load.
