Qualitative and Quantitative Identification of Structural Damages Based on Stiffness Index and Frequencies

  • In order to identify structural damage locations and extents,a qualitative and quantitative identification method based on stiffness index and frequencies was proposed,and the effect of measurement noise on damage identification was investigated.Firstly,with this method,a stiffness index is used to localize damages,and the statistical theory is applied to analyze the effect of measurement noise of stiffness.Secondly,the frequency change method is used to identify damage extents quantitatively because of the high measurement accuracy of frequencies.In order to raise the identification precision of structural damages,an improved iteration strategy of the frequency change method was proposed.The simulation results show that the stiffness index is better than the flexibility index to structural damage identification and the improved iteration strategy is superior to the frequency change method in the identification precision.
