The concept of aerodynamic admittance function(AAF) for the buffeting analysis of structures
was interpreted. Based on the discussion of AAFs used currently, their limitations were pointed out. The
mathematical expressions of admittance functions suitable forthin plates in different conditionswere derived,
and it was demonstrated that a 3D AAF can reflect the combined influence of the structural geometric
dimension, the turbulentwind field characteristic and the reduced frequency, and is accordwith engineering
practice. Finally, two types of methods to study the AAF through a wind tunnel testwere generalized.
