Based on the analyses of the typical channel allocation schemes such as FRA (fixed resource
allocation) and DRA (dynamical resource allocation) for GSM/GPRS (global system for mobile
communications/general packet radio service) networks, an improved channel allocation scheme, DMC_
DRA, was proposed, and its performances were analyzed. The new scheme may dynamically changes the
minimumnumber of channels for a GPRS packet. In thisway a compromise between FRA and DRAmay be
achieved to have better comprehensive performances such as channel utilization efficiency, packet transfer
time and call blocking probability.
